Our Free Migration Service Explained
We have written this post to explain what we will and will not do with our free migration service. We hope this provides clarity in what we will and will not offer as part of the free service. We migrate accounts for free for eligible clients as a service to clients who want to move more services to us. What you get free from us will depend upon what service you are buying from us. We just wanted to clarify what we will and will not do for clients for no charge so there are no nasty surprises if we ask you to pay for something.
Shared and Reseller Hosting Accounts
As the name suggests these are our cheapest hosting accounts. For example our entry level shared hosting account costs as little as 6 pence per day when paid annually. For our shared and reseller accounts we offer a full and free migration service from Cpanel to Cpanel. This means if your previous web host used the Cpanel Control panel we will migrate the accounts for free and make sure they all work on our server. Some exceptions can be made where we have appropriate access to your old server to allow a cpanel migration from other control panels. Where we cannot do an automated migration from cpanel to cpanel we would charge for a manual migration at a rate agreed in advance. Management have made exceptions in the past on the odd occasion for various clients but if you are paying 6 pence per day for hosting the general rule is we cannot assign a tech to do manual migrations from non cpanel servers for no charge.
Business Shared Hosting
With our business shared hosting you are paying approximately five times more for your service than the basic shared plans. This means we can assign more technician time to assist with non cpanel migrations (manual migrations) and for these accounts we will provide a 'best effort' comprehensive migration service. We will do our utmost to migrate your account from your previous host even if that host does not use Cpanel. For each business shared account we will assign up to a maximum of three hours with a Level 3 technician to assist with the migration. This is more than enough time to migration the vast majority of accounts successfully.
VPS Servers, Cloud Servers and Dedicated Servers
We are much more flexible in what we do for free for our VPS and Cloud server clients. Where you rent a VPS or a Cloud VPS server we will do 'whatever we can' to assist you in migrating your accounts over and this is our most comprehensive migration service we offer. We will migrate your VPS from another provider no matter what Linux version it is set up with and no matter what control panel it uses. It is a 'best effort' service and we will do our best to perform a full and comprehensive migration for you. The general rule here is we will do whatever we can but where a client is expecting too much from us in terms of technican hours Management will have the final call in where we stop so that we can be fair to all clients. For example if you are renting a £5 per month VPS1 we would spend less time than a client with a £100 per month Cloud server. That said, we will do whatever we can as best we can to migrate your server over to us and in 99% of cases we complete successful migrations.
