Overview on this Announcement

========

* PHP 5.2 is being removed - it is end of life and has been for a while
* You need to ensure your sites are compatible with 5.3
* If your site is not compatible with 5.3 it may break
* We will be keeping one server for a short time with php 5.2 so can move you as a temporary solution
* If you're unsure how this affects you, please talk to your web developer(s)

This is advance notification that we plan to upgrade the php version on all our shared and reseller servers before the end of the year.  Any new server that we have deployed in the past 6 months has been deployed with php 5.3.x but any older server or older server that has had a hardware upgrade still has the older php 5.2.x version.  We are getting more and more support tickets from clients asking about upgrading and we feel the time is now right to force this upgrade on all servers bar 1.

We will email all active account holders on each server to be upgraded 4 days before the planned upgrade.  We will also perform all upgrades on a Friday night so we can deal with any issues on a Saturday (our quietest day for support ticket volume).

The vast majority of users will have no issues with this upgrade as your scripts will work just fine on php 5.3 and you will not see any issues at all after the upgrade.  It is likely though on a shared server with many users that someone will be using a script that is not compatible with php 5.3.x  We would advise all users before the upgrade to check with any software vendors that the scripts versions they have installed are compatible with php 5.3.x and we would advise you to ensure you always upgrade your scripts promptly when new patches or new versions are released.

Please know we plan to keep one server with php 5.2.x for a short time so we can move anyone who needs (for whatever reason) to stay on php 5.2.x.  Please do know that php 5.2 is end of life and has not been supported for over 2 years now.

Remember to check your registered email with us as we will be emailing you to let you know the exact Friday your php will be upgraded.  All upgrades are planned to be completed by the end of 2012
