Server 20 Traffic Spike (RESOLVED)

We noticed a high spike on traffic on our network and we discovered we host a website connected to the driver who was tragically killed at the Isle of Man TT races.  This website is linked indirectly from a twitter link on the UTV News website. The story was also posted on a facebook page with tens of thousands of hits from likes and shares.   Unfortunately we received no notice of this so we did not get time to isolate the site.  In similar situations where we get notice such as a client appearing on Dragons Den last year we had moved the client to a totally isolated powerful environment.  In this case due to the nature of this sudden tragedy we had no notice.

The website has taken over 107715 unique hits already.  We are monitoring the server closely.  You will see the server load elevated but we are working to ensure it remains stable.  The server is performing very well.

Server 20 is a standard shared server and of course was never designed to take so many hits from 1 account like a VPS or Dedicated server would be.  We will do our best to keep this site on line.

Thanks for your understanding.  I want to assure you if this site crashes this server we will bring the server back up without this site and we will then isolate it.  At the moment things look to be ok but with social media shares and traffic from there we cannot predict traffic patterns.
