**This thread contains live updates of this outage as it happened so read from the bottom up to get the events in chronological order**

Saturday 17 August 2013 - 8.00am

The null route to the IP being DDOS'd was lifted shgortly after midnight and the DDOS attack seems to have stopped.  We therefore do not need to implement our contingency plan to get Server 20 clients back on line.  The network is being closely monitored.  We apologise for the inconvenience.

For your information DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service Attacks) are commonplace in data centres and these can happen regardless of your provider.  Last week for instance Digiweb DC in Dublin were subjected to a large scale DDOS lasting many hours that affected multiple providers including one of our competitors in Belfast as well as a Dublin based Cloud/VPS provider.  Thankfully for us this attack on this occasion was isolated to one IP address so after initial disgnosis which did take about 45 minutes it was easy to contain resulting in only one server being affected.  Thanks again for your extreme patience.

The Network admins confirmed this was an inbound DDOS against our IP on server 20.  They will lift the null route in 3 hours time at which point we can monitor the server.  We will not have any more updates for at least 3 hours.  We appreciate your extended patience.

It woud appear one of our servers has been responsible for this data centre issue.  Server 20 IP was being subjected to a large inbound DDOS attack and this was the cause of the issue in the entire segment of the data centre.  We have had to unfortunately null route this IP for a period of 4 hours. Once we null routed this IP the network stabilised.    Every other service is now back on line and we do apologise if you are on shared server 20 as this server unfortunately needs to be kept turned off for now.

We have a little fragment of information from Amanda at our provider where she said  'It appears that it is not only your servers, so it may be a network wide issue.' - staff are already working on this issue and we will provide information soon

Friday 16 August 2013 - 8.05pm

We are seeing packet loss across multiple servers located in Hostdime UK Facility.  Servers affected include Xen6, VPS4, VPS5 as well as some shared servers.  We are waiting to hear back from our network partners and will update this thread the moment we have some news.  We deeply apologise for this outage and we have alerted the data centre to the fact this is happening

Servers located in our Maidenhead facility (IOMART) and Orlando facility (Hostdime USA)  are not affected and remain on line and unaffected.
