At approximately 8.25pm this evening our monitoring system alerted us to the fact VPS5 Node was off line. We immediately checked this and discovered the node had rebooted (we did not issue a reboot request). As the node had more than a years solid uptime the operating system forced a FSCK (file system check) on the primary partition. Being an OpenVZ Node the primary partition is very large so this process took about 90 minutes at which point the server came back on line.
We are going to monitor this and if this happens again the server will be removed from the rack and some parts replaced. There was no reason for the server to reboot so this is why we will keep an eye on the hardware.
We do apologise if you were affected by this outage. Thank you for your patience.
