Our biggest server partner was performing some massive upgrades this weekend to their network. There are a few lingering issues - namely the link from their UK data centre to their USA data centre is not working just now. This has impacted some services and we have worked to bypass this issues so all problems are now resolved. it is important to note that only a small fraction of a percentage of clients were impacted by this and most clients will not have been aware of issues. At no point was any website not accessible caused by this issue and this announcement is purely for information only.
Issue One: Resolvers
Some older UK based servers had been configured with Resolvers in the USA data centre. As the UK data centre cannot presently see the USA data centre this has caused some issues today. We have reconfigured these servers to use Google resolvers and this issue has now been fixed. We apologise if you were affected as it did take us a few hours to work out what is going on. All issues caused by this problem are now resolved.
Issue Two: DNS Cluster
This is a zero impacting issue. Our DNS Cluster has 3 DNS servers in 3 different locations. Servers in the Hostdime UK data centre are unable to see dns2.bigwetfish.co.uk which is in the USA data centre. All DNS changes are being queued and we can sync the DNS zones when the issue is resolved.
Issue Three: mFilter Server
In an effort to keep our UK IP addresses clean from blacklists we routinely route email from UK servers through a Mail Filter Server in the USA data centre. This scans emails for spam characteristics and blocks emails that are spam from leaving the network thus helping preserve our IP reputation. Unfortunately as this link is currently not working between UK and USA the mFilter server is not able to be reached. We have routed all email direct to the internet to resolve this issue and have bypassed the mFilter servers.
