Just an update based we information we have now that we did not have 3 hours ago when writing this. Few of our clients are affected. it just appears to be USA clients using Comcast ISP only affected.. We would suggest based on the low volume of tickets we are getting that this issue is only affecting a handful of clients.
We have received a few reports from clients who have been telling us their websites are down. We have no server issues this evening and all issues appear to be DNS related. It would appear ENOM our domain supplier and one of the largest domain suppliers in the world are having DNS issues with their name servers.
Only a small percentage of our clients are affected by this. Unfortunately I have no official notifications from ENOM and can only report that I see. I just spoke to ENOM and they tell me there is no official announcement available on this outage at this time (despite it being 2+ hours). I asked if they planned to post an announcement and they said there were no plans as they only post planned maintenance on their announcements page.
Here is a summary of what I am seeing at this time:
Scenario One: Your Name Servers are bwfdns.com - YOU ARE AFFECTED Approximately 30 clients use our bwfdns.com name servers. These are older name servers that unfortunately use ENOM DNS (we stopped using these a while back for most new clients). We can set up new DNS for you on our Cluster but as DNS can take a while to propagate we would recommend sitting it out for a few hours while we find more information. If we have no resolution in sight in 8 hours we will look at alternativese. Any client with an urgent need open a helpdesk ticket we can help.
Scenario Two: Your Name Servers are bwfdns.net - YOU ARE NOT AFFECTED Our bwfdns.net name servers are set up on our DNS Cluster so you are not affected at this time.
Scenario Three - Your Domains use our DNS Cluster - YOU ARE NOT AFFECTED Shared Hosting clients who use our DNS Cluster ns1, ns2 and ns3.bigwetfish.co.uk name servers are not affected
Scenario Four - Your have Custom Name Servers and your domain is not registered at ENOM - YOU ARE NOT AFFECTED If your domain is registered elsewhere then you are not affected by this issue.
Scenario Five - You use a Third Party DNS Service such as https://dnsimple.com/ - YOU ARE NOT AFFECTED Any client who uses a third party DNS Provider is not affected at this time.
Please open a helpdesk ticket if you have any concerns or queries and we will be delighted to help you. Anyone using the failing bwfdns.com name servers we can assist with other options if you need us to just open a ticket.
