Recently, RedHat Linux identified a new privilege escalation vulnerability CVE-2015-1805 (https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-1805) in RHEL 5 & 6 kernels that allows any local, unprivileged user to gain root access to the server. It affects all RHEL and CentOS Linux servers and a kernel update and reboot is required to fix it.
We are in the process of applying this patch to all servers and all servers (including managed VPS servers) will need to be rebooted into the patched kernel. We intend to schedule the reboot of your server between 2am and 4am in the time zone in which your server is located in the next 72 hours. As this is an important update we are proeding with all servers at this time. If for some reason you prefer us not to patch your server let us know immediately (although we do not see any reason why you would not want the patched kernel)
If you prefer to schedule the patching of your server for a specific time let us know immediately and we will schhedule it for you.
If we do not hear from you we will be going ahead with this reboot as it is a critical security update. We thank you for your understanding.
