The remote hands technicians in the data centre re-seating the drives has done the trick. The server is no longer throwing errors on boot and is back on line.
We aologise for this dowtime. It could not have been predicted and the security patching was imperative to be completed.

The file system check completed but the server will still not boot up. We're sorry about this as this time to complete was clearly wasted. We are seeing intermittent raid card stalls causing kernel panics. Our remote hands in the data centre are re-seating all drives against the backplane and are also re-seating the RAID card along with any drive related cables
We are booting up a Hot Spare Server but we are hopeful this is not needed. This is only being prepped to speed up a restore process if it becomes necssary. This is normal in situations like this and in most cases it's not needed but prepping it now will ensure time not wasted later.
