Server 18 Upgrade

28 June 2016: 11.40pm
New Server is now on line and serving websites. We checked a random selection of sites and they appear to be loading fine. Please check your site and open a helpdeks ticket if you see any issues. We're confident this new server will give a great performance compared to the old server. We are running a fresh set of initial backups that will cause slightly elevated load for a day but your service should not be affected.
We apologise once again for the delay on getting this completed. We had hoped to have this completed much earlier in the evening.
28 June 2016: 11.00pm
We're going to have to pull the server off line to cope over the final databsaes to ensure no data loss. Bear with us we are in the final stages now.
28 June 2016: 10.30pm
The IP switch was problematic. We switched the IP back to the old server and are working on this now. We do apologise for the extended time

Ww're working on this switchover now and will update you soon.
28 June 2016: 8pm
The sync is complete and we are switching the IP now. There will be a little downtime while we complete this task and for that we apologise. We will be working as fast as we can to minimise the downtime.
28 June 2016: 1pm
The final sync is stil working through and is 70% completed. We should be in good shape to swap over the server this evening. Remember the old server is still on line and all websites are still loading.
28 June 2016: 6am
The final rsync is going more slowly then anticipated and has not completed yet. It's important we complete this to ensure data is up to date on the new server. We have taken the decision to let this complete before switchover. Next update at mid day today. The old server is on line and serving web pages but there may be a slight slow down as the sync completes.
28 June 2016: 1am
The final sync of the data is underway. Once that happens we will swap teh IPs over and sites will start to load from the new server.

***We are really sorry but this move did not happen due to some technical issues with the new server. These issues have now been resolved and the new server is stable. It is happening on Monday 27th June 2016***
Server 18 is an older server we had planned to replace during the UK School Holidays in August (when more people are off work and when impact is less). Unfortunately this server RAID array is now reporting as degraded. Rather than fix the old server we have brought forward the upgrade.
We will be upgrading this server on Saturday 25th June at 1am and we anticipate a 4 hour upgrade window.
We apologise in advance for any downtime during this maintenance window.
