Server 14 Upgrade Advance Notification

**UPDATE**

The delivery of parts has been delayed caused by the extended holiday weekend in Ireland / Northern Ireland.  We will have a confirned date hopefully by Thursday of this week.  In the meantime we are moving the 4 biggest users off this server.

This is advance notice of a server upgrade.

Server 14 whilst works well can sometimes become overloaded and sluggish.  Most of this is caused by I/O wait and also the older processor.  We plan to replace server 14 with a brand new state of the art server within a month.  Dates are yet to be confirmed.

The process will involve an overnight period of downtime as we need to physically copy the data from the old server to the new server.  We will start this at off peak times and will do all we can to complete this as fast as possible.

The new server will have the following characteristics:

- 50% more RAM than the current server - faster RAM as well
- 4 additional CPU cores on the latest intel chips
- New Adaptec RAID card with Write Cache enabled (with Battery Backup) for better read performance

CPU Benchmarks from :  www.cpubenchmark.net

Current Server 14 CPU:  3555
New Server 14 CPU:      8468

The new processor blows the old one out of the water.  This together with the new hardware, the extra RAM and the caching enabled on an Adaptec RAID card (as opposed to no caching on a 3ware RAID card) should result in a really good server that will stand up to anything thrown at it.

We will confirm an exact date in the next couple of weeks and we will be in contact with all affected clients.  Do come back to us if you have any questions.
